Building our dream home!

It’s been a long time since we have had the opportunity to post here! Having a family and a full time job can be exhausting- especially with a toddler!

Mostly everyone knows that we are currently under contract with a local builder (Mungo Homes) and we are building our dream home!

What better way to keep track of our progress than here? 🙂

Back I’m April 2014, after exhausting our housing options with our realtor in the district 5 school zones, we began our journey with Mungo.

We toured their model home in Duncan, the “Langford” and really fell in love with the floor plan. Since there were a couple location options in that neighborhood, we decided building is the right thing to do (even though I was -still am- extremely apprehensive about the process.

We chose lot #230 because of it’s quiet location, and the semi privacy it offered, in particularly across the road.

The contracts were signed on april 30, 2014.

Here is a picture of the lot. It looked like this for the next 7 weeks or so.

Two weeks later, we got to go to the design center to make our selections. That would have been fun without a toddler. 😉
We managed to get everything picked out and chosen for our house! We were really excited!

Then we wait. We checked our lot several times a week hoping to see even the smallest progress or change and nope. Nothing. Nada.

We receive an email from our sales rep at mungo on June 2 stating that our start date has changed. It’s no longer June 6, now it’s June 13! Ugh. Feels likes we are having a set back before we even get going!

June 13th arrives and they “start” on our lot. They grade it and prepare for the home! Exciting! But it opens up a ton of questions about drainage and the lay of the home, etc.

June 18th we schedule our pre construction meeting for the 19th even though they’ve already broken ground! We meet Todd, our project manager. He made us feel much better about the build and answered all of our questions. He definitely made us feel comfortable moving forward.

Week 2 of build observations:
Sold sign placed on lot!

Delays for the last week due to the holiday and perhaps a little rain. Now we await the much anticipated pouring of concrete….

10 months old!

There is no other time on life when you feel as though your in a time machine as much as when you’re caring for your baby. Time literally flies. I’m not sure what happened to the last ten months. While It feels like yesterday when Oliver was born, at the same time it feels as though we have always had him.

One of my favorite times of the day is waking up to his coo’s, ahhs, and oohs of the morning. He seems to always be in such a pleasant mood when he wakes up. Often times he wakes his daddy up with a foot to the face, sticking his little fingers up his nose, or playing with his (recently grown) beard.

At 10 months he’s gotten so big! He’s about 21 lbs now, and tall and lanky. He has 6 teeth now! Two on the bottom and Four on top, 2 of which just came through as of this week. He’s talking some, saying “Da da, mama, pa pa, baba, whooo, and gaga’. Those are just the ones that come to mind. He makes so many sounds! He’s not crawling yet, which makes me wonder if he will at all. He’s more interested in trying to pull up and see things. He hasn’t mastered pulling up *just* yet but he’s close! He can stand unassisted for a minute or two (while holding onto a toy/furniture). He’s also learned how to clap and he seizes every opportunity to applaud himself and everyone around him!

He loves all of his toys. He thoroughly enjoys playing. His favorite toys are his activity table, his elefun ball poppers, his little tykes garden and his touch and feel books. Books are his favorite things above all else.

As for food, he’s eating more and more. His favorite snack is veggie straws. He also loves anything with cheese, sweet potatoes, corn, and mandarin oranges!

7 months old!

It’s been a while since I’ve had time to post. We have some exiting news this week, though! I’ve decided to go back to school to pursue my teaching certificate in early childhood education! I’m so excited about that, I know it’s where I’m ‘suppose’ to be and I can’t wait to make this change in my life!

Meanwhile, Oliver has been making some changes. He’s growing so fast. He’s been sitting up by himself for two months. He’s recently gotten his first tooth! (Monday October 21,2013) teething is hell but we’re glad it came through! He’s working on getting himself into a sitting position and crawling.

Here are a few pics from the last few weeks!
